Speech Therapy

The (voice specialist) Speech Therapy team are extremely effective at restoring function to your voice post-surgery and can help alleviate the symptoms of complex voice diagnoses. This service is also used as part of our internal referral framework, helping restore function to the whole voice, not just the singing voice.

What is Speech Therapy?

Lydia and Lauren, our specialist speech and language therapists, provide a wide range of treatment options: from voice care advice, to a programme of voice therapy for people struggling with their speaking or singing voice. They can help with a wide range of vocal complaints, as well as giving advice on other ENT and airway difficulties. Their knowledge of the singer and singing voice, as well as the speaking voice, means they are well equipped to deal with elite level vocalists.

Why do I need speech therapy?

  • Hoarseness or loss of voice (a recent assessment by ENT is essential)
  • Vocal fatigue
  • Vocal strain or discomfort
  • Pre and post-operative voice rehabilitation
  • Globus (sensation of something stuck, or a lump in the throat)
  • Persistent cough
  • Persistent throat clearing

Speech therapy sessions will help to bridge the gap between your ENT team and your singing teacher or vocal coach. Receiving a diagnosis of vocal pathology can be scary and confusing – Lydia and Lauren can help you to understand what your diagnosis means, and how to recover.

Speech therapy sessions will often be part of a multidisciplinary approach, alongside manual therapy treatments, nutritional planning, mindfulness and meditation or vocal rehabilitation. As a team, we are passionate about collaboration in order to provide the most holistic and effective treatment options.

What will happen at my appointment?

Your first session of speech therapy will help to explore your concerns. Voice problems can be complex, so it is important to take time to determine the underlying cause of your issues. Lydia or Lauren will listen, and help you to understand your symptoms, and the treatment options most appropriate for you.

How long is an appointment?
30 minutes

Your treatment sessions will consist of a tailored programme of voice care advice, strategies and exercises. Lydia and Lauren also work holistically with mind, breath and body. They believe that individuals should be given the tools to manage their symptoms, so not only should your sessions help you to recover from your issues, they should also help to prevent them reoccurring in future.

£55.00 for 30 minutes

This treatment is scheduled and booked with a deposit, and Lydia or Lauren will invoice for the remainder of the fee. This way of working enables both a fair wage to the expert practitioners, and facilitating the administration of multidisciplinary team meetings and management.
